Il Cavallo di Leonardo

GAMI - Galleria Archivio Multimediale Ippodromo
1999
After an initial model of about three meters in height, the definitive version was made in clay, nearly eight meters tall, used to create casts and subsequently for bronze casting.

At the entrance of Piazzale dello Sport 6, since 1999, stands one of the largest equestrian statues in the world, weighing 10 tons and over 7 meters tall. This is Leonardo's Horse, created by Japanese-American sculptor Nina Akamu, who drew inspiration for her work from Leonardo da Vinci's original designs. The original statue was conceived in 1482 by the Tuscan genius on commission from Ludovico il Moro, Duke of Milan, who wanted to dedicate the work to the memory of his father Francesco. The horse statue arrived in Milan in 1999 from the United States, divided into seven parts, and only after careful welding by a team of specialized workers, under the supervision of sculptor Akamu, could the dream of Leonardo and American Dent finally be realized.
