L'ape regina
Ernesto Treccani
Fondazione Corrente ETS
1967-1968
oil on canvas
The Fondazione Corrente presents this work to offer a reflection on environmental issues and the importance of ecological protection on the anniversary of the 1976 Seveso river disaster.
The title of the painting—which develops the recurring theme of the relationship between man and nature during that period—is linked to the character depicted, Uncle Giovanni, a wise farmer from Melissa often by Tre portrayedccani, who was also active as a beekeeper. In the development of the artist's figurative language, this work plays an important role. The definition of the image (especially on the left side of the canvas) required a long period of work, adjustments, and refinements for a satisfactory result: from the achieved model, which concluded a slow and, in some respects, laborious elaboration, originated the series of more 'informal' hedges, where, on the contrary, the acquired control of the project allowed for increasingly rapid execution times.
