Memoria della Deportazione
Arnaldo Pomodoro
Archivio Studio Origoni Steiner

plaster cast
For Museo Segreto, the Archive presents the plaster cast of the ANED (National Association of Former Deportees) plaque created by the great master Arnaldo Pomodoro. Anna Steiner recounts: “The story of this work is important to us. Both my father Albe and my mother Lica, due to their history, were members of the ANED (National Association of Former Deportees) since 1945 until their deaths, and then I took over. When, in 1999, the Foundation Memory of Deportation was established at the proposal of ANED President Gianfranco Maris, a former deportee, Studio Origoni Steiner was commissioned to design the plaque for the headquarters.
I thought it was right not to limit ourselves to a typographic or graphic project, but to represent such an important institution historically through a master of sculpture like Arnaldo Pomodoro, a close friend of our family. When contacted in 2003, he was immediately available and generously donated the bronze work to the newly founded Foundation, where it is now visible at Via Dogana 3.
Some time later, Arnaldo called me to say that they were going to demolish the cast of the plaque in his studio to prevent unauthorized reproductions, but he thought it would be better to preserve it in our studio.
This deeply moved us. We welcomed it as a precious gift, for its artistic value, as well as for its human significance.”
