The Speaking Maiolica: The Hidden Art and Science in the Building of the Aquarium

On the outer walls of the Aquarium, you can admire the maiolica that narrate the content of the building. These works not only depict fish and aquatic plants but also incorporate scientific inscriptions. The result is a wonderful blend of artistic representation and scientific rigor, designed to immediately capture the attention of visitors.
These decorations were created by Richard-Ginori, a company that emerged in 1896 from the merger of Manifattura Ginori and Società Ceramica Richard. In a short time, the company achieved absolute dominance in the national market and a prominent position abroad. Artistically, this merger marked the advent of the Liberty style in production, inspired mainly by French models.
