ADI Design Museum centers around the entire repertoire of projects belonging to the historical collection of the Compasso d’Oro prize, today the oldest and most institutional recognition in the sector worldwide. Together with the Permanent Collection, the museum spaces host temporary thematic exhibitions, cross-disciplinary initiatives, and public encounters aimed at a broad audience.
The museum is located at Piazza Compasso d’Oro 1, at the intersection of Via Ceresio and Piazzale Monumentale, and sits within a context of a former industrial area of high architectural value, which in recent years has undergone an important urban refitting. ADI Design Museum is a narrative and experiential museum, a container open to exchange. The goal of ADI – Associazione per il Disegno Industriale and its Foundation was precisely to build an inclusive, non-celebratory reality capable of offering the most engaging possible visit experience, but above all in progress, by continuously updating the pieces of the Compasso d’Oro Collection, which happens every two years. The latter is the mainstay of a narrative framework in continual becoming, to which will be added temporary exhibitions for in-depth study and cross-disciplinary initiatives always relevant to the world of design. A place capable of stepping beyond the traditional boundaries of museums and opening up to the complexity of a globalized reality in all its manifestations, establishing connections between the design world and that of fashion, architecture, science, technology, and creativity in general, as well as the productive system.
