Wall&decò ospita Kasa dei Libri
Apertura da martedì a venerdì ore 10-14 e ore 15-19
Sabato ore 10-14
Domenica ore 15-19
Open Tuesday to Friday 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. - 7 p.m.
Saturday 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
Sunday 3-7 p.m.
The selection of volumes by Dino Buzzati from the Kasa dei Libri collection aligns with the theme of MuseoCity 2025 – The Streets of Art, showcasing one of the most important authors in the city's history. Buzzati set his novel Un amore and several of his short stories among the streets of Milan, as well as one of the first graphic novels, Poema a fumetti. This work is a reinterpretation of the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice, set in Milan, particularly on Via Saterna—an imaginary street that can be placed within the historic areas of old Milan near the Wall&decò showroom. This connection inspired the selection of these volumes on loan and the collaboration.
On the occasion of the "In vetrina" project for the 2025 edition of Milano MuseoCity, the Wall&decò showroom will collaborate with the cultural association Kasa dei Libri on a project aimed at mutually enhancing spaces and content. The showroom will design a wallpaper installation themed around books, while Kasa dei Libri will curate a selection of volumes dedicated to the writer Dino Buzzati.
The choice of this author aligns with the theme of the event, The Streets of Art. Buzzati was a key figure in the cultural life of Milan, a city that frequently appears at the heart of his articles, novels, and short stories. The streets of Milan form the backdrop of his novel Un amore, serve as the setting for many of his articles for Corriere della Sera, and even inspire a fictional street in Poema a fumetti—Via Saterna, possibly located near the area where the Wall&decò showroom stands today.
Moreover, Buzzati was not only a writer but also an illustrator of several of his books and covers. His work offers diverse and original insights into Milan and the infinite paths of writing, literature, and art.
Below is a list of some of the volumes that will be exhibited:
Poema a fumetti, Arnoldo Mondadori Editore, 1969: The first edition of what is considered one of the first graphic novels in Italian literature. In this reinterpretation of the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice, the streets of Milan—both real and imagined—are central from the very beginning: "In Via Saterna nella città vecchia esiste una villa con grande giardino da moltissimi anni abbandonata."
Il libro delle pipe, by Dino Buzzati and Eppe Ramazzotti, Editrice Antonioli Milano, 1946: Born from Buzzati’s collaboration with his brother-in-law Eppe Ramazzotti, husband of his sister Angelina, this book blends history and imagination to create a whimsical treatise in defense of the pipe, which is portrayed as being defeated by the "villanella rifatta" (the cigarette). The text is enriched with illustrations by the authors.
Il deserto dei Tartari, illustrated by Enrico Baj, Olivetti Editions, 1974: This special edition of one of Buzzati’s most famous novels was curated by Giorgio Soavi for Olivetti and features beautiful illustrations by Enrico Baj.
Le storie dipinte, curated by Mario Oriani and Adriano Ravegnani, Milano, All'insegna dei Re Magi, 1958, edition of 520 copies: This book originates from a Buzzati exhibition at the Re Magi gallery, presenting a selection of illustrated stories. Buzzati himself once said: "I am a painter who, as a hobby, during a rather prolonged period, also worked as a writer and journalist. But for me, painting and writing are essentially the same thing. Whether I paint or write, my goal remains the same: to tell stories."
In addition to these volumes, the selection will include other illustrated and non-illustrated books by Buzzati. Examples include La famosa invasione degli Orsi in Sicilia, Cronache fantastiche, Spanish and French editions of Il deserto dei Tartari, and more.
The selection of volumes, on loan from Kasa dei Libri, will be hosted at the Wall&decò showroom within a specially designed installation featuring book-themed wallpaper. The exhibition will be accompanied by a brief text narrating and contextualizing Dino Buzzati, his works, and his connection to Milan.
Visitors will also be able to consult the exhibited volumes.
